Deductive Tasting Class
Deductive Tasting Class
Class will be held Tuesday July 29th at 6 PM in main tasting room
Class will include tastings and food pairings
A 3-hour deductive wine tasting class with winemaker Craig Suveg would be an immersive and hands-on experience, designed to deepen your understanding of wine through critical thinking and sensory analysis. Craig, known for his deep knowledge of wine and his approachable teaching style, would guide participants through the process of evaluating wines like a sommelier. The class would begin with an introduction to the fundamentals of deductive wine tasting—teaching you how to assess a wine's appearance, aroma, palate, and finish. As the class progresses, Craig would demonstrate how to use these sensory cues to deduce the wine’s identity, including its variety, region, and age.
Throughout the session, participants would taste a selection of wines from different regions and varietals, engaging in both group and individual discussions about their impressions. Craig would encourage attendees to describe what they are tasting and why, helping to refine their palates while fostering a collaborative atmosphere of learning. He’d also share insights into the winemaking process, offering tips on how to recognize subtle differences in wines that stem from terroir, fermentation techniques, and oak aging. As participants analyze each wine, they’ll begin to develop the ability to predict details about the wine’s origins based on its characteristics—practicing the art of deduction.
The class would also include practical tasting exercises, such as blind tastings and food pairings, to put the deductive process into real-world context. By the end of the three hours, participants would leave with a deeper understanding of the nuances of wine, as well as a new set of skills for tasting and appreciating wines more thoughtfully. Craig's engaging style and wealth of expertise would ensure that everyone walks away feeling more confident and curious about their wine knowledge, and perhaps even inspired to continue exploring the world of wine on their own.
